The real question that should be asked is why is the U.S. government dependent on any private anti-terror organizations in the first place. The answer is painfully simple. The U.S government still refuses to define the enemy in terms of Jihadists and refuses to develop a policy on Islamism. The private anti-terror groups should deserve every bit of kudos for trying to do what the most powerful government in the world lacks the resolve to do itself.

We'd (the Allied forces) never be able to fight and win World War II today, considering the "need" of the various media to expose every secret they can lay their hands on, regardless of the consequences to the war effort.

It boils down to a case of oneupmanship - break the story first, thus increasing ratings, and to hell with the results.

We're going to commit societal suicide, and I have no idea how the trend can be reversed.
