His mandate is to advance US interests above all. He has not failed to be critical of Palestinian terrorism. The US gains benefit from appearing magnanimous on the world stage. Presumably, the US also suffers consequences from angering God, which we do if we fail to support Israel. Despite the apparently obvious choice, it's a difficult task to weigh global political benefits against divine favor. I'm not sure I would have the metaphysical strength to do it either.
