Happy news

I finally got the offer from Company in Northern Virginia. I accepted the verbal offer and am awaiting the written offer. If all goes well, I will be on staff by October 1st.

5768 is starting out well for me.

As soon as I have that offer letter in hand, I’m going to visit some banks to discuss mortgage options. I found a development that I really, really like. I want to see if I can afford it. It’s a development that builds to suit. I would buy now and move in next May or June. That would work. I’m steadily working my way out of debt, and that would give me a chance to work up a larger down payment.

A job and a new home… big year ahead for me. Don’t worry. The blog is going to stick around.

Wonderful news, they are lucky to have you working for them!
Good luck on finding a new home in a good neigborhood.

  5. A Steve Says:

Congratulations! Wait, does this mean you’re leaving Richmond? I thought you were looking at places down there.

  6. Meryl Yourish Says:

Nope. I’m pretty set in Richmond. The job is a telecommute, with trips up to NorVA when needed.

  7. Alex Bensky Says:

I lifted an Arbor Brewing Co. Sacred Cow IPA in your honor this evening, Meryl. Lucky company; we wish you all sorts of success with them.

  9. David Charlap Says:

Congratulations. And if you’d ever like to get together (along with any other NoVA residents here) on one of your trips north, just say the word.

  10. A Steve Says:

    Ah, I see. Telecommuting rules.

I’m with David. If you ever have a NoVA party, count me in. I’ll see if I can get Meredith to come, too (she’s singing in the Temple choir now, and I’m currently trying to figure out if they let goyim on the technology committee :) ). I recommend Wegman’s. (What? You had better things to do in college than hang out at a grocery store?)

  11. Meryl Yourish Says:

I’ve been to Wegman’s. The friends who tipped me off to the job opportunity live in NoVa, and have taken me to Wegman’s, Trader Joe’s, and a variety of restaurants. Plus they’ve helped me find kosher butcher shops, etc. I’m quite famliar with Rockville now.

I like the Royal Dragon. Maybe a lunch there on a Sunday that I’m not teaching. During winter break, perhaps.

  12. Gary Rosen Says:

Congratulations, Meryl, I wish you success in your new job.

  13. jja Says:

I hereby join the chorus of congrats!

I wish there was a Wegman’s in my area, but having a TJ’s close by mostly makes up for it.

Keep us posted; we’d love to come down for a visit!

  14. Rahel Says:

    Whee! Mazal tov!!

I have the perfect vacation destination for you, when you’ve built up enough vacation time.

  15. Meryl Yourish Says:

Jay, the first thing I did was call the folks at the condo complex I’m interested in. If I buy one from then, it will be ready around May/June.

What I’m trying to decide is if I should stop looking. I sort of decided I want new construction. After I saw that condo, I decided I wanted single-floor living. There are only a couple of complexes like that in the Richmond area, and this one is far and away the best quality, best construction, nicest, and best-located community I’ve found. Plus, a friend of mine already lives there.

Some people tell me I should get a realtor and keep looking. But I’ve found the place I really, really, really like, and would frankly move in tomorrow if I could.

I’m trying to decide if I should keep looking or not. I’ve done a lot of research into new construction in Richmond. Once I eliminate townhouses (and stairs), there isn’t a whole lot.

  16. Ahuva Says:

Mazel tov! If you are happy and the price is right, then go for it. Make sure you do a BBB search on the builder (and be sure to look carefully into “resolved” complaints– BBB tends to mark everything resolved after a period of time).

There are a lot of good deals out there in this market, but the best deal is the house you love.

  17. Jay Says:

    Congratulations, Meryl!
