Can’t break the habit
I have an apparently unbreakable habit of returning things to the refrigerator as soon as I’ve finished using them. For instance, my breakfast is often a glass of milk and some toast. I keep the bread in the fridge to prevent mold. So in the morning, I take out the bread, milk, and butter, pour myself a glass of milk and put the milk back in the fridge. Then I warm the butter a bit in the microwave, put the toast in the toaster oven and put the bread away. I have tried every day this week to wait to put the milk back until the bread is ready to go back, and this morning, even TOLD myself to wait and put them both back together. This habit is so unconscious that when I went to put the bread away, the milk was already in the fridge and I didn’t even remember putting it back.
I think I’m about to give up on even trying, because this isn’t the first time I’ve tried to break myself of that habit.
There are some habits I’ve managed to break myself of, including cracking nearly every bone in my body before going to sleep. Stopped that years ago. But I simply cannot seem to stop myself from opening the refrigerator door twice every morning, instead of only once, when returning things to the fridge.
Got any habits you’ve tried to break that you can’t seem to manage?
