Did Fatah take a dive?

Ted Belman thinks so. He says the US and Israel urged Abbas to let Hamas have Gaza so it can sink under its own weight.

I’m not buying it. An Islamic theocracy funded and backed by Iran and Syria, on Egypt and Israel’s borders, is not a desired neighbor, and Hamas has proven itself adept at surviving everything but IAF Hellfire missiles.

Occam’s razor, Ted. Fatah Khaled Abu Toameh thinks Fatah’s loss was inevitable.

The writing was on the wall because Hamas had already inflicted heavy casualties on Fatah in previous rounds of fighting over the past year. In addition, it was clear that Hamas was eventually going to take over the entire Gaza Strip, because of the anarchy and disunity among the Fatah-controlled Palestinian security forces and their commanders. It was obvious that Fatah was going to lose, because the masses were not going to take to the streets to defend leaders living in villas and driving luxury cars.

There is also the fact that Fatah may have had numerical superiority, but numerical superiority has never amounted to anything if the soldiers have neither the training nor the will to fight. The Arab armies have had the numerical superiority in all of Israel’s wars, and yet, Israel remains.

Hamas had the will. Fatah did not. Abbas didn’t even order his soldiers to fight back until it was too late. That alone speaks volumes.

I shall shed no tears for these terrorists ! They deserve what they get !!

Meryl is exactly right. In addition to which, Fatah has been in complete disarray for a long time, while Hamas has been disciplined and united. (Remember that Hamas won the elections largely because they fielded only as many candidates as there were open positions in each district, while dozens of “independent” Fatah candidates diluted the vote by running against the party picks.) Fatah wasn’t strong enough to take a dive.

Fatah couldn’t take a dive if they had to. They were routed… they took a dive the same way the Egyptian Air Force did in 1967.

“Hamas had the will. Fatah did not.”

Here we see the strategy of the Islamists around the world laid bare. They have the will to fight, endlessly if necessay, to take power in order to lord it over other people and institute their theocratic tyranny. What use is the power of the USA or of other civilized countries if we do not have the will to fight and kill those who would destroy us? If we do not want the above phrases to become the epitaph of Western Cviilization and liberty, we had better get off our asses and hunt down the jihadis everywhere. And we had better stick it out in Iraq and stomp out the jihadis there to start with.

I think it was Robert Heinlein who said “Those who would beat their swords into ploughshares will plough for those who do not.” That is if they don’t kill you to steal your wealth before you can surrender.
