Music/audio question

My niece is applying to a music camp that requires audition tapes/CDs. The audition was recorded onto a computer via a microphone of so-so quality, using Audacity.

Is there anyone out there who is a good hand at cleaning up noise from audio files? There’s a huge background noise I’d like to get rid of.

Meryl, have you tried Audacity’s own built-in noise removal function? If not, then it might do the job. Check Help under Noise Removal; it will tell you how to use it. It did a decent job removing tape hiss from a couple of cassettes I copied to my computer.

I did, and it didn’t do very much. However, a friend of mine who has a professional audio editing program did a great job.

    Thanks, Tom.

Yeah, I’m actually not that impressed with Audacity’s noise removal capabilities. I think I’m better with my old shareware copy of CoolEdit ‘96.

So it’s taken care of? Cool.
