Fluffy kitty post

The world is too depressing, but Tig and Gracie aren’t.

This first picture is a shot of Tig who, moments before, was sitting up in an Edloe-like position. He has a very strange (and annoying) habit of actually pulling the water dish to him, rather than, say, moving forward the step he’d need to reach it. Sometimes, he pulls it over (hence the annoying part of this habit, particularly when the dish is full). The rest of his odd ritual is the way he encircles the bowl with his paws.

Gracie and I received some new tissue paper in the last week or so, and since green and purple go so wonderfully with her orange coat, I immediately added the paper to the top of her nest, which is, uh, getting rather ragged. That’s because she’s suddenly decided she has to scrunch it up and move it around, and, well, it’s tissue paper. She has claws, which remain untrimmed. She is asleep in her nest as I write this.

I shall be on the lookout for more fancy tissue paper on sale. Her nest got all messed up when she got sick, and has been reduced to just a few rumpled pieces of paper. Which, by the looks of it, is still plenty good enough for her.

About the only benefit of being between jobs for the moment is being home more often. The cats love it, and it enables me to keep an eye on Gracie, take the occasional nap with Tig, who will sleep in my lap for hours if I let him, and, well, just enjoy their silliness. They make me laugh every single day without fail. Especially Tig the Goofball. Really. I wish I’d been able to capture him ten seconds before I got the above shot. He was sitting up and bent over, pulling the water dish toward him. Lazybones.

    You know Meryl,
While you are between jobs, why don’t you start working on a book. A good idea could be a book for Jewish teenagers teaching truth, before they get hit with anti-semitism in college.
Other ideas will occur to you, I’m sure.
You’re a great writer, go for it.
    all the best, jdc

    Meryl,

Do you brush Tigs fur at all?

It seems that in some pics of him, his fur is in place and kinda trim looking and then in others it looks like he took a ride in the clothes-dryer for 45 minutes…

    I’m just curious….

Either way, hes a real nice looking cat.

Maybe to keep other paws away from his bowl?

  5. I do brush Tig fairly often, but I’ve been lax lately. The fur on his belly gets the most tangled, and sometimes mats. Rarely, thankfully. I’ve discovered that one of the few things Tig does NOT object to is having a mat cut out. His little kitty brain manages to figure out that I’m making something uncomfortable go away.

I haven’t been brushing him due to paying excessive attention to Gracie’s illness, but thanks for reminding me. I’ll get him today. Gracie, too. They both love it.

His coat looks real well groomed in the last pic you have.

But that wild, just got outta bed look looks pretty nice on him too. As you know, my favorite pic of him is one of them bed-head moments…

What is it with cats and Israeli blogs?

  8. I think it has a lot to do with the very draining quality of keeping up with the news about Jews.

    It’s usually bad.

So when events get to be too much, we have cats.

Cats are always good. Well, not in behavior, but to look at. Soothing. Cute. Funny.

They’re a cure for bad news.

Oh, and this isn’t an Israeli blog. It’s a blog about Jewish and Israeli issues, plus cats. And personal things.

And juvenile scorn. Lots of that.

  9. A couple of my cats like to pull the water dish to them, as well. It’s not so much the laziness as the desire to see the pretty water sparkle, I believe. (Thought I never underestimate a cat’s laziness.)
