Site news

Since I have a little time on my hands, I finally got around to putting in a plugin so that if you want to read posts by category or date, you can get more than the default number of displayed posts (which is exactly the same as the default days display of the main page).

I expect to get a few more things going. Any requests? There are now a zillion WP plugins, so if you see one you like, ask me. That’s not a guarantee that I’ll add everything you folks want. I prefer plugins that give my readers easier access and better usability. I’m all for simplifying things as much as possible. I have always preferred to err on the side of caution, and make things as simple as I can.

Some of your categories have a Kajillion posts in it which makes it kinda complex to sift through.

Is it possible to put them by category, and then the much larger databases will have an additional field that goes by date (per 6 months or so…) also?

I’m sure that makes it complex, so I was just wondering … (with hat in hand…)

  2. I’ve just changed the category rule to show the last 30 posts ordered by date in the “Israel” category. I can show them by number of posts or number of days (choose one), then by date, category, title, or author, ascending or descending.

Suggestions on how you want them displayed are fine by me.

However, I can display posts by author, title, category, etc., etc.—but I haven’t displayed those on the right navbar yet. I think I’ll talk to Jay and see what I can do.

I think by ‘category’, then by ‘date’ (nested within the category), then by increments of 30(??) posts, would probably be the best way to do it (in my mind).

So… using Laplace Transformational terminology, the Time ‘domain’ gets all messed up after a while being that there are so many categories that you post on through the months. Being that my long term memory primarily works in the Category ‘domain’ (at least for the minutiae) that is much easier to keep track of when it comes to much older posts.

    Thats just my wish list…

Oh, Meryl, that sounds like a plugin I’d really like to use for one of my own WP blogs. After reading your post, I looked through list after list of plugins, but I can’t seem to find one that does what you describe.

Will you please tell me the name of the plugin, and possibly where you found it so I can get it too?

  5. It’s from Matt’s Googly Site. It’s called Custom Query String.

I can never find what I want looking at the lists. I generally Google the kind of plugin I’m looking for and find it that way.

    Excellent! Thanks, Meryl.

I tried googling “wordpress plugin categories pages” and got many results, but none of them were correct. Thanks again.
