This is encouraging for the USA. We have another 500 years before our collapse - about the same amount of time that passed between Crassus's defeat in Syria and Rome's collapse.

Someone should point out to him that the "citizens" had no choice. They were absorbed into the empire whether or not they wanted to be. Ask Rabbi Akiva and Bar Kochva if they wanted to be "offered" the chance to be a citizen.

The offer was not even Hobsen's choice. At least his customers could walk away.

That man is an unadulterated dunderhead. To beat him to death with his own idiotic, undereducated, inappropriate analogy, I would note that the Roman Empire survived some 500 years after the death of Crassus, and that's if you don't count their Byzantine successors, heirs, and assigns, who actually carried the eagles of the Imperium for another 1000 years.

Furthermore, Rome actually conquered Mesopotamia some 150 years later. So much for the significance of Crassus' (or Crassus's, if you are a fan of Strunk and White) defeat.

In the game of Empire, frontier skirmishes simply don't count.

That true, Eric - this specific empire does miss out on some of the better parts ;-)

Look, if were going to be an Empire, can we at least get good at the looting part? And when do we get to see our vanquished enemies driven before us in chains?

Hell, we don't even get any slaves.

We're the suckiest empire ever.
