James Baker and Jimmy Carter were mentioned by John Kerry in 2004 as possible Middle East envoys until someone must have told him how unacceptable both those freaks are to Israel. The Country Club Republicans of whom G.H.W. Bush, Brent Scowcroft and James Baker are good representatives of - hate Israel but the rank and file Republican politicians and voters do not. That is one reason why Pat Buchanan is no longer a member of the GOP. Beware though of a creep named Chuck Hagel of Nebraska (R.).

In one sense "Heinreich the K" is correct.

The only country that can guarantee
Israel's continued existence is ...
wait for it ...
it'll be clear any moment ...
we understand it now ...
ISRAEL!

Unfortunately for us Americans, the
Israelis need us less than we need
them. Who here for doubts for even
a second that China's attitude toward
the "Palestinians" wouldn't change
immediately if Israel offered the
Middle Kingdom a complete military
alliance?

Some 7 million or so Israelis are
keeping hundreds of millions Arabs
and billions of Muslims and Europeans
at bay.

Do we Americans really want them
on someone else's - China's or
Russia's - side?

That would be a massive strategic
blunder. Which is exactly why
the Left in America wants it to
happen.

The Left hates America so they want
our "relationship" with Israel to end.

Yes, well, Kissinger's forecasting abilities seem to have failed. It's now twice fifteen years later. The Arabs still haven't developed the capacity to wipe out Israel...if anything the technical and military advantage to Israel is even greater. The Arabs have the wealth but the skill?

And Israel, thank goodness, isn't anything like Lebanon. Culture counts: Israeli culture leads to different ends than Arab culture.

I have to ask yet again: Kissinger refers to Israel's "historic proportions." What the hell were they? The Arabs always made it clear from 1949 on that they considered the borders merely cease-fire lines to be crossed when the time was ripe, because they would not recognize Israel within any borders.

The talk from the Arabs about the 1949 borders having some meaning started only after 1967. But that's the usual: thanks to the rest of the world the Arabs fight wars without consequences. No matter that they lose, everything goes back to square on.

The US has its vital interests, as does Israel. No nation will sacrifice its vital interests for the sake of another. Ultimately, Israel can only rely upon itself. There is no such thing as "friendship" between nations, only a temporary alliance based upon common interests.

I have no idea what the outcome will be, but I'm certain of one thing only. The US government will sell Israel down the river, when the former deems it propitious.
