Cecil: I had my doubts about allowing you to comment. Now I don't.

One more remark about Jews having dual loyalties and you're history.

I already suspect you're an asshole. Don't prove it.

I am on vacation, and trying not to deal with crap like this. But that doesn't mean I won't.

Hi Cecil. Not only am I aware, we have done a short <a href="http://simplyjews.blogspot.com/2006/06/ab-yehoshua-sticks-to-view.html" rel="nofollow">study</a> on the subject.

Still - how is this applicable to the situation with Ami, I fail to guess.

It seems to me the money saved on training was indeed squandered, but not on settlements. It was squandered on uprooting thousands of Jews from Gaza who had been urged to settle there by successive governments, demolishing their homes and destroying their businesses and communities, paying them less than agurot on the shekel and then withholding the promised compensation for months on end, putting them in temporary housing for months on end with large families forced into one or two rooms, then cutting off the housing prematurely and threatening them with homelessness, ruining their posessions in forced storage, disrupting the schooling of their children -- all so that the newly Judenrein land could be turned over the terrorists the better to use as a launching base and a staging ground, to say nothing of a recruiting tool. And the terrorists repaid KAdima by kidnpapping Gilad, launching numerous Kassams and Katushyas --- but hey, why NOT blame the settlers. It's so much easier than admitting that disengagement was just as stupid an idea as Oslo was.

"No man can serve two masters."

Cecil - could you decipher, please? How exactly does Ami serve two masters? By criticising both Israeli and US governments?

There must be something too deep in that sentence I do not understand.

Dick, I agree with you. In my opinion, IDF was going the wrong way (or, rather, was led the wrong way) by the prolonged period of jet jockeys trying to go at it alone and by indecisivenes of the government.

The real ground attack should have either started earlier or not at all. The way it started - barely three days before the ceasifire - was just stupid.

Americans who back Israel were shocked by the Bush-Rice turnaround, but perhaps B-R figured since the IDF wasn't getting the job done, it would be a good time for brownie points with the dictators' club. At least to give the Israelis time to get their act together. Not good when politics holds up dispatch of weapon resupply, obviously, but the cluster bombs mentioned in the post are of limited value against dug-in, underground troops. They are more likely to kill civilians (especially unwary children) than just about any other ordnance, only adding to IDST.

Why don't the critics of this post touch on <blockquote>As in 1973, depending on USA for vital weapons that USA held up for political reasons</blockquote>

It would also help if they addressed the political behaviour of the <strike>Administration</strike> Rice, for one, adamantly refusing to consider a ceasefire that would just revert to the <em>Status Quo</em> and then a couple of weeks later cave in to French inveigling of just such a situation.

There is reek of IDST as Yourish would say.

If anything the current Israeli leadership should be fired for simply permitting the country to once more find itself subjugated to Washington politics.

If the US army didn't do everything in its power to keep its soldiers alive, including "cowardly" acts like calling in airstrikes and artillery bombardments, they would be as effective on the battlefield as an Arab army. Which is to say, they would be ripped apart by any army that didn't obsess over honor and shame.
