The terror war: Updates

The death toll is now eight Israeli soldiers. One was killed while trying to retreive the bodies of soldiers killed early when their tank ran over a mine.

Hizbullah thinks it has the upper hand. The IDF is readying itself for a major military offensive. Israel’s alert level is at its second highest, just below a state of emergency.

Al-Aqsa is promising to open a new front and start sending rockets into Israel from the West Bank. That would be a grave mistake. Now would be a good time for Mahmoud Abbas to exert any control he might actually have over his terror groups. Whoops, that’s right, Al-Aqsa is a “loosely-affiliated” group.

Israelis who live in the north have been sent to bomb shelters, and Israel overall is readying herself for a barrage from the 20,000 rockets Hizbullah has aimed at Israel. One can only hope that Hizbullah screwed up the maintenance of those rockets as much as the palis did when they tried firing the Grads from the terrortories[sic].

Looks like Mohammed Deif’s luck may have finally run out—he spent four hours in spinal surgery after the IAF dropped a one-ton bomb on his head. Can a paralyzed man still make bombs? Dunno, but we can always hope he doesn’t make it through recovery. I know I will be.

Will there be a third front in the Terror War? Ze’ev Schiff says Israel should try to avoid opening a front with Syria.

By the time I wake up tomorrow, I’ll know what happened after the government okayed massive aerial bombardment of Lebanon. I’m quite sure that I’ll be reading Kofi Annan’s condemnations of it as well.

Off to bed. Gd watch over and protect Israel.

Wishing Deif dead? No, no, no, Meryl.

Let him live the rest of his life as a paraplegic – plenty of his victims have. Let him feel pain for years and years.

Plus, perhaps Hamas will keep including him in their meetings – it’s a bit harder to sneak in a guy who can’t move, so perhaps this will lead to the elimination of more terrorists. We can only hope.

Not to sound like a hawk, but uh… Syria no longer has the outside support it once had. With Iraq a Democracy (and ambivalent to the baby Assad Regime), Iran on the other side of Iraq and Lebanon not happy with Syria; why not have the IDF march on Damascus?

I’ll say it again: Why not have the IDF march on Damascus?

Being that the regime is supported by only a fraction of the population and with no real allies left, all Israel would have to do is march in, Liberate the people, and leave.

The new government couldn’t possible be more hostile to Israel than they are now anyway…

The IDF hasn’t made detailed statements on the terror operation that led to 7 IDF deaths and 2 captives. I copied the following forum comment from an Iraqi supporter of Hizbollah:

“This morning, Wednesday 12.07.06, Hezbullah ambushed an Israeli military convoy on the Lebanese border killing three Israelis and taken two others as prisoners. When the Israelis rushed with their tanks, huge road-side bombs exploded destroying two tanks and killing an additional four Israeli soldiers. This attack was preceded by at least 30 missiles fired at Israel command and control posts. Hezbullah seems to launch its operation in support of the besieged Palestinians in Gaza whom are being killed, point blank, by Israeli Tank fires…”

    I dunno.

I get Ezzie’s point, but in reality, I don’t want Deif rolling around playing the part of another Yassin-like figurehead and training next generations of the soon-to-be fingerless.
