I have always hated the patronizing overtones of the term 'right to exist'. I refuse to use it whenever I argue Israel's case.

If any one group needs to justify its 'right to exist' it would be the Arab interlopers who have usurped the name of Palestine for no purpose other than the genocide of the Jewish nation. Where is the right in that enterprise?

According to the Bible, title to the land, and the entire Earth, belongs to God. That's the reason for Genesis 1, but the proposition is stated most often in Tehillim (Psalms). This is a point of agreement between Judaism and Islam. Another point of agreement is that God subsequently promised a certain expanse of land to Abraham and his descendants the Israelites. Moses and later prophets subsequently clarified that the Jews' possession (not title, possession) is subject to interruption on account of wanton disregard of God's commandments. Here is where Islam departs from the Bible--the Qur'an posits that the Jews were permanently disinherited on account of misbehavior, whereas the Bible provides that God will gather the exiles in triumphant return to their homeland.

For those who wonder about the Bible as title, versus the usual basis for control over land (conquest), it's worth noting that Abraham's purchase of a burial cave for his wife is among the earliest real estate transactions in recorded history, if not the oldest. Following in that tradition, the Zionist movement established the Jewish Agency to purchase land under Ottoman jurisdiction. The State of Israel later took land in the conventional manner (that is, by force), but in wars started by neighboring states.

Wow. That says it all. Using the bible as title to the land. Yep.

Unfortunately, there are alot of hand wringers who require that the Jews get the approval of the Palestinians before they have a 'right to exist'.

Didn't those people ever play at the playground? Getting the approval from a bully at the playground required strength and numbers. Wit only enraged them (boy I sure learned that one).

Tiny little Israel gets into the Mideast Sandbox and all those big boys can't take how prosperous, happy and free all those Jews are. When they pick a fight, Israel bloodies their Philistine noses.

How will this end? Beats me. Though you have the strength, you haven't the numbers...

But then, with technology as powerful as it is today, numbers are no longer as necessary as they were.
