Cutting straight to the point

There were rolls at the Last Supper?

Okay, so I was watching my Gilmore Girls DVD (season four, thanks again, Ilyka!), and it was a silly episode that I really like, partly because they have the Festival of Living Art, which is a pretty strange festival where the locals get made up to look like paintings and statues and then, well, stand still for half a minute looking like a painting or a statue. And one of the paintings is DaVinci’s The Last Supper, which brings on lots of silliness between the characters who play Judas and Jesus.

So I’m watching the episode, and Judas and Jesus are fighting, and one of the characters says to them, “Cut it out or I’m going to throw one of these papier-mache rolls at you.” And I did a double-take, and said out loud, “There were rolls at the last supper? There were rolls at the last supper? There were rolls at the last supper?”

Which brings me to this post. When the episode was over, I went online and found this copy of the painting, and damned if there aren’t rolls in The Last Supper.

Hello, Jewish! Jew-ish! Last Supper was a Passover Seder! Hello! Calling Leo DaVinci! Where’s the matzo?

I thought he was supposed to be smart.

I have a doctor’s appointment this afternoon. The virus/bug/stomach thing that I had two weeks ago came back this weekend, and is holding on. I suspect that the cats and I will be napping most of the day.

The good news is that when the doctor decides to do some bloodwork, he won’t have to hesitate because I’m no longer a self-pay. Big yay for medical benefits. Those of you who have never been without have no idea how much it impacts your healthcare, and not for the better.

Update: Apparently, that stomach flu/virus from two weeks ago knocked my electrolytes out of balance. No drugs. Just dietary restrictions and suggestions to take vitamins and stay well-hydrated. So it seems my naps aren’t doing nearly as much as a glass of Gatorade would have done.

On the other hand, he also did bloodwork and other tests, which he’s been dying to do since I first became his patient. Thanks to the medical coverage, we did. And the copay was far less than I’ve been paying out of pocket. Yay overall.

“Not in our name” revisited

Hamas “government”, as we have already mentioned before, easily inherited Arafat’s double-dealing way of life. While refraining from carrying out the terrorist attacks by themselves, they are condoning and supporting such attacks by others.

In Gaza, Hamas operatives often assist attacks carried out by Islamic Jihad and the Popular Resistance Committees. The rockets fired at Sderot last week, for instance, were made by Hamas, and “rebellious” members of the organization helped launch them. The Shin Bet security service also accused senior Hamas operatives of having helped the Popular Resistance Committees prepare a attack in April at the Karni crossing between Gaza and Israel. That plan was foiled by PA security personnel.

Being an aspiring bunch of Arafat’s heirs, Hamas is deftly redefining the “Not in my name” slogan, up to now used by the anti-war protesters all over the globe.

Currently, Hamas’ West Bank cells are focusing mainly on buying arms, training operatives, setting up explosives factories and conducting experiments. However, a few cells - mainly in the southern West Bank, around Hebron and Bethlehem - are continuing to carry out small-scale attacks. These cells are only loosely connected to the organization’s leadership in Damascus and Gaza, and as long as they keep a relatively low profile and do not claim responsibility for their attacks in Hamas’ name, the leadership does not interfere.

And, of course, Hamas is heavily investing in the sciences, caring for the future generations… of their armory, that is:

Hamas operatives in the West Bank have experimented with adding toxic chemicals to their bombs, security sources told Haaretz Monday. The sources said the experiments have involved relatively simple chemicals, and as far as is known, the organization is not yet able to integrate such agents into its bombs effectively. However, they said, Hamas’ West Bank cells include several skilled bombmakers who are investing great effort in trying to upgrade their weapons.

What can one say: a nicer group of people has been rarely targeted by any military outfit!
