The grimly amusing thing is that Canada is big on multiculturalism and likes to contrast itself with the American melting pot idea. It's as if the diversity office of a university took over cultural affairs for an entire country. The last prime minsiter even appointed as governor-general a Haitian immigrant whose devotion to the very idea of Canada is not especially strong.
The Canadians didn't participate in the Iraq War and congratulated themselves no end on not doing so.

And then this. It didn't insulate them, and I'd be willing to beat a substantial proportion of these terrorists are entirely home-grown. I'd like to think this wll cause the Canadian chattering classes to think things over, but I have no hope that it will.

... on terrorism charges and Pajamas Media has a boat load of links with details. My favorite, Meryl Yourish, who preemptively rebuts the bovine fecal matter soon to be spewed forth by progressives around the world, most especially (and predictably)...

I approved Vynette's comment, but I should like to point you to her blog if you'd like to discuss the theological aspects she raises in it.

Religious discussions seem to bring out the worst in everyone here.

The citizens of the world can no longer afford the luxury of catering to the 'sensibilities' of religious folk - including Muslims.

There is only one way to attenuate the threat posed by militant Islam and that is to introduce doubt into the hearts and minds of ordinary Muslim believers.

Instead of side-stepping in fear of giving 'offense', strike at the very heart and soul of the problem.

And what is that? It's the real 'root cause' - the Qur'an!
This fountainhead of fervour and discord, supposedly an exact word-for-word copy of tablets existing eternally in heaven:

makes demonstrably false claims

is based on identifiable 'fables'

is replete with historical errors and anachronisms

is not worthy of faith, let alone lives.

To argue endlessly about what is meant by this word, or that word, or this idea, or that idea, is worse than pointless when the whole book can be, indeed has been, swept away by an even mildly rigorous scholarly examination.

Question the provenance and content of the Qur'an, publish fearlessly, and confidence in the Qur'an as the word of Allah will be severely shaken, just where it should be - in the hearts and minds of ordinary Muslims.

So, no, I don't think we should stop talking about 'root causes'.
