Cutting straight to the point

Tired

I’m sorry, folks. I’m just tired. New job, not enough sleep, and a phone interview for another job with more responsibilities and more pay for a longer contract time. Of course, they called me on my cell, and of course, the effing signal dropped right as the interviewer said,”I ask this question of all the candidates…”

That’s why I was sitting in my parking lot. I scheduled the call for the time between my day job and teaching religious school, and drove home, because it’s between my day job and my synagogue. I switched to a land line for the rest of the interview. It went well, but I was very clear to them that I couldn’t leave my current employer in the lurch and would have to finish out the job.

Anyway. Not much time left in the evenings, and no time during the first days of a new job to do anything but, well, work.

I’ll try to get up a bit earlier tomorrow and schedule a few more posts to run throughout the day. But I’m too tired to write anything tonight.

Crap. I have to write up something for the podcast tomorrow, too. I was going to write about International Eat an Animal Day for PETA, but I’m thinking it’s still cartoon time. And I don’t mean Bugs Bunny.

Ooh. Hm. Maybe I can work him into my next podcast.

Hulk smash bad guys!

Lou Ferrigno, who played the Hulk in the TV series, is joining the Los Angeles County police force.

Have no fear, citizens, the Hulk is packing heat.

Lou Ferrigno, the bodybuilding champ who played Dr. Banner’s bigger half in the 1970s TV series, The Incredible Hulk, will be sworn in Monday night as a Los Angeles County reserve deputy sheriff.

As a member of law enforcement in good standing, Ferrigno will be issued a badge, a baton and a gun — a Beretta 92FS, per the sheriff’s department Website.

“He’s only authorized to carry [the weapon] when he’s working in the capacity as a reserve deputy,” said Jeffrey Prang, special assistant to Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca.

Of course, I had to ask the real Hulk what he thought about this. He was not pleased.

Bah! Hulk not need gun. That not real Hulk. Guns are for puny humans. Puny human not even really green. Had to paint self green to pretend to be Hulk. Hulk not like that show, anyway. Stupid Banner was in show most of the time, almost no Hulk at all. That Hulk was small! Hulk much bigger than that. Hulk like movie Hulk better. But Hulk can still beat movie Hulk. Hulk is the strongest one there is!

Fake Hulk stupid. Have stupid haircut, too. Make Hulk look stupid. Hulk not stupid! Hulk smash anyone make Hulk look stupid!

Thanks a lot for sending me that story, Lair. The Hulk broke my sofa again when he tried to sit in it.

Hamas moderation watch

Still waiting for the mythical moderation of palestinian terror organizations.

Hamas leader Mahmoud A-Zahar vowed Monday not to bow to American threats to cut aid, saying the movement did not need “satanic” US money.

[...] He ruled out making compromises to keep the money coming.

“Recognizing the state of the Israeli enemy is not on the table,” he said. “Our program is to liberate Palestine, all of Palestine,” he said.

“The Qassam Brigades will continue to increase in numbers, supplies and weapons…until the liberation is completed,” he said of the group’s military wing. He added that Hamas can develop the capabilities of its missiles.

“Anyone who thinks the calm means giving in is mistaken. The calm is in preparation for a new round of resistance and victory,” he said. “If the enemy has something to offer we will study it, but we will not abide by a truce that is for free.”

So, Vladimir Putin, how’s that moderation-wait coming? Sounds like an idea for a play to me: Waiting for Moderation.

Hamas is openly vowing to retake Jerusalem.

Hamas politburo chief Khaled Mashaal said that the organization’s goal is to liberate Jerusalem.

“Our mission is to liberate Jerusalem and purify the al-Aqsa Mosque. Islam goes forward because its power comes from Allah and it will continue to advance in spite of its opposers,” Mashaal said during a conference in support of Hamas organized by Sudanese parties in the capital of Khartoum.

“We tell our people – the crowd gathered here supports our Jihad way and resistance,’ he added.

“God is leading us to victory and liberation,” he said.

I’m thinking not. But it’s good that you’re living up to your nickname, Hamassholes.

The divestment backlash

All is not well in Presybterian DivestmentLand. Seems not all Presbyterians hate Israel. Gee. Who knew? (Well, we did, but they didn’t listen to us.)

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Five regional bodies in the Presbyterian Church (USA) are calling for a modification or end to the church’s attempt to pull investments from companies working in Israel.

The regional bodies, called presbyteries, have drafted proposals, known as overtures. Each overture differs slightly, but all call for a modification or withdrawal of the divestment policy because it is biased against Israel in favor of the Palestinians.

The moves come almost two years after the Louisville-based denomination started a process of selectively divesting in multinational corporations operating in Israel.

Church officials said they still are negotiating with such companies and will have no position when the recommendations come up at the church’s General Assembly in June. That would push any action on the measures to its next assembly in 2008.

The really funny part of the article is this one:

The church’s assembly approved its divestment policy in 2004. The measure is aimed at pressuring Israel to end its occupation of Palestinian territories.

Gee, you mean like they did in Gaza? You know, the action that the PC-USA Church came out with a statement in support of Israel as a result of the withdrawal? Oh, wait. That was Alternate Universe PC-USA. In this universe, they said nothing.
