The Nobel committee members are schmucks

The IAEAwon the Nobel Peace Prize? For what? Ignoring Iran’s nuclear intentions? Allowing Pakistan to sell nuclear knowledge across the world? To frown in North Korea’s general direction?

You know, I’m really glad I’m not European. There’s some kind of disease that strikes too many of these people and removes their brains while leaving their bodies intact.

The Nobel committee said ElBaradei and the IAEA should be recognized for addressing one of the greatest dangers facing the world.

“At a time when the threat of nuclear arms is again increasing, the Norwegian Nobel Committee wishes to underline that this threat must be met through the broadest possible international cooperation. This principle finds its clearest expression today in the work of the IAEA and its director general.”

Really? I thought that’s what the United States is doing. But wait, the hypocrisy is overwhelming:

He also refused to endorse Washington’s contention that Iran was working to make nuclear weapons and disputed U.S. assertions that Saddam Hussein’s regime in Iraq had an active atomic weapons program – both claims that remain unproven, despite growing suspicions about Tehran’s nuclear agenda.

ElBaradei and the agency had been among the names mentioned as speculation mounted in recent days that the Nobel committee would seek to honor the victims of nuclear weapons and those who try to contain their use.

The committee has repeatedly awarded its prize to anti-nuclear weapons campaigners on the major anniversaries of the 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.

“This is a message to all the people of the world: Do what you can to get rid of nuclear weapons,” Nobel committee chairman Ole Danbolt Mjoes said. “The people’s power is formidable.”

No, this is a message to the world: Get nuclear weapons, because we can’t see you, la la la, we can’t hear you, what nuclear weapons, Iran?

I am so disgusted at this decision. It’s worse than giving the peace prize to Jimmy (Jew-hater) Carter three years ago.

Well thank you for that. I just love mass insults.

  5. President Gusamo of East Timor probably should start suicide bombing Indonesians and stealing billions of dollars if he ever wants a prize.

  6. You have a point there, Kav.

I’ll amend that to “some Europeans” when I get home.

  7. chsw says:

Qadaffi should then receive the prize. He ran rings around ElBaradei for years! IAEA never knew that Libya had actual weaponry! Then Qadaffi threw away the nukes and therefore lost all chance of a Nobel.

  8. Gary Rosen says:

Don’t give in, Meryl – at least make it “most Europeans”. As for Carter, I’m sure they vaulted him to the top of the list when they found out what a fanatic antisemite he is.

  9. Alex Bensky says:

Now come on, Meryl. The prize was awarded because they’re “addressing” the problem of nuclear proliferation. They aren’t actually doing anything about it, but by golly, they are addressing it. What do you want–actual action on Iran?

Let’s be grateful for one small favor, and small is what it is: the IAEA hasn’t followed up it’s “What Iranian nuclear program?” with a declaration that the real threat to peace is the nuclear program of a certain small country at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea.

    Thanks Meryl, much appreciated.

Gary, why propagate a mass stereotype or insult of a large group of people based upon a few that you think are idiots?

That is not the way to win any battle, nor any friends.

  11. Gary Rosen says:

    Kav,

My grandfather emigrated to the US from what is now Belarus at the age of 14 in 1900. If he hadn’t done that, my parents would have been killed by the Nazis and I never would have been born.
My story is only one of millions.

Europe has been a bloody killing field for Jews for centuries. And now, it is not just “a few”, but there is overwhelming anti-Israel sentiment in Europe allegedly based on sympathy for the Palestinians. But given the ugly history of this continent, it is far more likely it is based on plain old antisemitism. There have been too many innocent Jews murdered for too long a time for me to want to give Europe any benefit of the doubt.

As for “win[ning] new friends”, we’ve heard it all before. Just be nice and polite. All it got us was the gas chambers. I’ll take Ariel Sharon any day.

  12. Kav says:

Gary, I live in Europe, I interact with people everyday. Not all of them are wankers. A lot of them don’t even consider the middle east at all.

yes there are plenty of fools and idiots over here, a veritable multitude, but when you start lumping us all intogether instead then you start to alienate people. Why do it if you don’t have to? I’m not saying bend over and take what the bastards dole out, but don’t turn around and kick the bastards and all those standing near them. It makes no sense. Discrimate over who needs the kicking and then kick them good and proper.
